Ngā Tumuaki Māori o Aotearoa

I te wiki tuarua o tēnei wahanga tuatoru i haere atu ahau ki tētahi hui mō ngā tumuaki māori puta noa i Aotearoa, ko Te Akatea te ingoa o tēnei rōpū. 

Nā reira, kōtahi atu mātou ngā Tumuaki Māori ki te whaitua o Te Waiariki, o Ngā Pūmanawa e Waru o Te Arawa! Karanga mai e te Rotoruanui a Kahumatamomoe.

He hui whakangungu tēnei mō taku mahi Tumuaki, he huarahi tēnei ki te hono atu ki etahi atu Tumuaki Māori, he wā mō te whakarongo ki ngā kauhau whakaihiihi, whakatenatena i te tangata.

Nā te taniwha hikuroa a Pem Bird i whakatō te whakaaro kia tū mai tētahi rōpū tautoko i ngā tumuaki māori. I te tau 1990 - 1991 ka tū te hui tuatahi o Te Akatea ki Maketu (te kāinga noho o Pāpā Pem) ā, ka tae atu i ētahi atu mātanga matauranga māori ki te hui nei.

Ko wai rātou?

Ānei ngā taunakitanga e toru i puta mai i te hui rā:

That a body as envisaged and for the purpose stipulated would be established;

That Pererika Twist would take responsibility for growing support in Waiariki, and Barna Heremia in Waikato;

That the group be called Te Akatea, following a suggestion from Jimmy Schuster who related the story of his tipuna Rangitihi who suffered a grievous wound to the head in a particular battle, had the wound bound with akatea vine to stem the flow of blood and enable him to continue to fight and eventually carry the day.

Thus Te Akatea - a metaphor for contemporary Māori leadership in kura battling to keep alive te reo Māori with brave, stoic and relentless determination.

The theme for this years conference was 'healthy living, emotions and overall wellbeing, as well as finding balance in our busy lifestyles'.

He mea nui tēnei i roto i tōku ao, i roto i aku mahi. Me whai rautaki, me whai huarahi te tangata kia taurite ai te noho i roto i tēnei ao titakataka.

 

"He taura taonga e motu, he taura tangata e kore e motu".

One of the great aspects of attending conferences and professional learning kaupapa is the opportunity to mingle, to share conversations with people that share similar roles with you. These people understand your role in your kura and understand the demands as well as the benefits.

This was the underpinning message of our Te Akatea Conference - how do we as Tumuaki Māori ensure that we are FINDING BALANCE IN OUR LIVES!

Being a tumuaki is exhausting but rewarding! 

Working with a great team and building on individual confidence is empowering. 

Making sure you have a place, a passion that you can ensure you are getting that balance in your life will make being a tumuaki a great experience.

Surround yourself with good support and advisors....remember it's actually ok if you don't have the answer.....he tangata noa iho tātou!
